The Cross

This is an amazing place to visit, to connect, to listen, to learn, to be inspired and understand how faith and the most ancient of cultures on our planet are connected.

It will be a sight sure to inspire, to create conversation, to draw people near and far, to bring hope, connection and reconciliation. The vision is 100% that of the local people, their heart, their faith, their plan.

The cross will be 20m high and have a very tasteful low level of LED illumination at night to enable it's outline to be seen.

The cross itself will be made of high quality Australian (Core Ten) steel that is designed to develop a thin film of rust. This rust colour will cause it to blend with the land.

Welcome to this land.

Our Vision

An Inspiring Vision

The vision of the local indigenous people is to share their faith with the world through this inspiring project and to link it with a viable social enterprise that will transform their community. They invite you to be part of this story, to visit and experience their country and their culture.

Memory Mountain is just under three hours west of Alice Springs. It is the site of this unique project combining faith, culture and social enterprise.

A 20m high cross is being built on a mountain adjacent to a place of gathering that celebrates the role of Aboriginal evangelists who worked over a hundred years ago to share the Christian faith which today remains a major part of life in this community.

Completion of the cross together with appropriate investment in tourism, camping and site management, will bring great opportunities for the community and to see their culture and a message of hope shared with the world.

Today the Memory Mountain is working with traditional land owners in the community, the Northern Territory Government and Federal Government to make this a reality.

A Social Enterprise

Memory Mountain Limited has been established as a not-for-profit “social enterprise”. Benefit from this project will flow directly to the local indigenous communities.

The cross will attract visitors from around the world, create new tourism and visitor opportunities, provide a place for gatherings and employment for local people.

All financial surpluses from Memory Mountain Limited will go back to the communities. These funds will be used to help provide training, to improve housing and to reduce dependence on government funding. The majority of the board are local elders and Traditional Owners.

This is an exciting time as the Cross nears completion and plans are made to enable this place to welcome you to this amazing inspiring country and to learn more about this story.
